Australia and New Zealand Pet Sitters Organisation Offer Online Pet First Aid Course
31 August 2008I am sure most of you are aware that we were elected to take over the day to day running of Anzpetsit in July 2008. Since this time we have been working hard behind the scenes to promote the Pet Sitting Industry.
Through Kates contacts Anzpetsit has recently partnered up with Dr Tom Day and CEO John Robert Curtin to bring you their first online course in Pet First Aid.
“A lot of pet owners don’t realize there are some basic steps they can take in an emergency before they take their pet to the vet,” said Dr. Tom Day, a veterinarian who specializes in emergency medicine and author of “The Pet Lover’s Guide to First Aid & Emergencies.”
Dr Day, who served as a professional advisor and is a contributor to the course added, “This Online Pet First Aid Course is designed to teach basic emergency first aid from the comfort of your own home at your own pace so you can help prevent injury to yourself and further injury to your pet.”
Kate Williams of Anzpetsit commented “Having knowledge of basic first aid could be the difference between life and death for our belovered pets, we hope the course will attract not only pet sitters but animal management officers and pet owners”
Through detailed instruction and videos, pet owners will learn how to:
1) Recognize emergencies
2) Provide emergency life support
3) Handle sudden illness
4) Care for wounds, bleeding and burns
5) Treat physical injuries
6) Handle poisoning and environmental emergencies
7) Prepare for disasters
Course participants will better understand normal pet behaviour and how to recognize behavioural changes. There are opportunities to check your understanding of the content throughout the course.
